Companies House Confirms Identity Verification Rollout

From 18th November 2025

We would like to make you aware that Companies House are making mandatory changes to online filings from 18th November 2025, which will affect Directors and PSCs.

From 18th November 2025, all individual company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) will be legally required to verify their identity under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

Personal Code

Please note that once you have the personal code, this will not change, and it will be treated in a similar way to a National Insurance number.

Directors

If you are currently a Director, you will need to provide your personal code in your company's next confirmation statement filing from 18th November 2025

If you become a Director after 18th November 2025, you will need to provide it as part of your appointment filing or when you incorporate a company.

You can apply for this code now if you are a Director (details on how to do so are below).

People with Significant Control (PSCs)

You will need to provide your personal code to Companies House for your role as a PSC. There will be an online service to do this when the requirement comes into force on 18th November 2025, and is not currently available to access (we will keep you updated).

Every PSC will have a 14-day period during which they must provide their personal code.

Apply for a Code as Director

The easiest way for a Director to apply for a personal code is via GOV.UK One.  If you do not have a GOV.UK One account, you can easily create a new account; both can be accessed by following the link below:

https://signin.account.gov.uk/sign-in-or-create

Once you have verified your Identification via your GOV.UK One account, you will be sent a unique identifier known as a Companies House Personal Code, which can then be used to file online at Companies House or can be given to an ACSP Agent, of which ABMV is already set up as.

ABMV Identify Check Service

Should you rather not set this up via the Gov.UK account, for a one-time fee of £50 plus VAT plus £3 disbursement fee, as an ACSP Agent, ABMV can request an ID Check via our in-house software.

You would receive an email from us stating we have requested an ID Check and you would need to follow the instructions to upload the documents required to verify your identity.

Once your data is uploaded, you will receive a personal code.  As the code is personal to you, this would then need to be forwarded to us to be able to continue to file on your behalf.

Please note that although ABMV is an ACSP, we are NOT able to manually verify ID.

Next Steps

We would advise that Directors look to verify their identity as soon as possible as from 18th November, without a personal code, neither yourself or ABMV will be able to file anything at Companies House without this.

If you would like any further help, one of our team members will be happy to assist you. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
